Tech giants raise hundreds of billions for AI: Meta through shares, SpaceX through debt
Money keeps flowing into AI infrastructure. Microsoft offers 60,000 employees a voluntary redundancy scheme.
Meta is breaking a record with a 95 billion dollar share issue to fund its AI build-out, De Tijd reports. In De Standaard's markets column, the question is what Mark Zuckerberg intends to do with all that fresh capital. The issue follows last week's split into non-voting C shares, which according to De Tijd may have tax consequences for Belgian investors.
SpaceX is borrowing 40 billion dollars to secure extra AI chips, according to De Tijd and Tweakers. Business AM speaks of debt financing for GPUs.
The flip side is employment. Microsoft is offering 60,000 employees a voluntary redundancy scheme because AI means it needs fewer staff, De Standaard reports.
