Anthropic files for listing: rapid growth, heavy losses
The prospectus combines explosive revenue growth with a heavy loss and an ethical narrative. Chip stocks on Wall Street rebounded.
Anthropic, the AI company behind the chatbot Claude, filed its listing documents with the US securities regulator, the SEC, on Monday. De Standaard speaks of what could be the biggest IPO ever and writes that the prospectus pairs breakneck revenue growth with a moral message: the company says it is not a pure profit maximiser.
The figures are hefty. Tweakers reports a net loss of 80.7 billion dollars, and Het Nieuwsblad notes that the prospectus says little about how or when the company intends to make a profit. According to De Tijd, Anthropic plans around 800 billion dollars in AI spending. The NOS highlights the risk section, in which Anthropic warns that AI could become a safety problem for the world.
Investors reacted enthusiastically. US stock markets closed higher on Monday, led by chipmakers, as the filing revived enthusiasm for AI investment, ANP reports. Investors hope the IPO will give the struggling tech sector fresh momentum.
