New US-brokered peace talks set for November as Oleshky truce takes effect
Zelensky confirms a meeting with Russia and the US. Moscow wants to use the talks to push NATO back in Eastern Europe.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed new US-mediated peace talks with Russia in November, De Standaard reports. Russia wants to resume negotiations after 4 November. According to HLN, Vladimir Putin wants to use the talks to scale back NATO's military presence in Eastern Europe.
A local ceasefire for the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky, announced by US First Lady Melania Trump because of a food crisis there, has meanwhile taken effect, Het Nieuwsblad's liveblog reports.
Tensions with Washington persist. Zelensky says US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has been holding up the delivery of American missiles for a month. De Tijd also looks back at the Starlink outage, which Elon Musk ended after a phone call from Trump.
