Serbian voters show Vučić the door as students win at the ballot box
A leaderless student list won Sunday's snap election. Experts doubt that Serbia will change course quickly.
Serbia's snap parliamentary elections have been won by the Student List, which grew out of two years of protest. Former president Aleksandar Vučić, the country's strongman for more than a decade, conceded defeat on Sunday evening, De Standaard reports. De Tijd speaks of a resounding victory that appears to end 14 years of increasingly autocratic rule. Turnout was a record, although reports of fraud and intimidation also surfaced.
Whether the movement can govern the way it organised itself remains to be seen, De Standaard writes. Balkan experts at VRT NWS say the new government has no concrete plan, making major shifts on Kosovo, Russia or EU accession seem unlikely.
