Demir sets tougher language and maths targets for secondary schools from 2029
Minister Demir's reform takes effect from September 2029. Teachers back the aim but are tired of yet another curriculum change.
The Flemish government has approved Education Minister Zuhal Demir's (N-VA) proposal for new minimum targets in secondary education. They take effect from September 2029, when the first generation to complete primary school under the new targets moves up, VRT NWS reports. The bar is set especially high for Dutch and maths, and according to HLN there will also be more history.
For many teachers it is already the third switch in ten years, writes Het Nieuwsblad: the reform is needed, but there is also a lot of frustration. De Morgen notes strikingly mild reactions, while De Standaard sees it as the next step after Demir's overhaul of nursery and primary education.
