Harry Kane, 33, won his first Ballon d'Or in London on Monday evening, ahead of 19-year-old Lamine Yamal, and in his speech wished Bayern coach Vincent Kompany strength after his hospital admission, Het Nieuwsblad reports. Yamal was again named best young player; Spaniards Luis de la Fuente and Unai Simón were named coach and goalkeeper of the year.

Alexia Putellas won the women's Ballon d'Or for the third time. Tessa Wullaert finished 19th, De Standaard reports; Sporza calls it historic recognition for a Belgian player.

The evening began chaotically: shortly before the ceremony, the organisers accidentally published three articles online, each with a different winner, Sporza and HLN write.
