Filling up with diesel has never cost more in Belgium: cap rises to 2.51 euros
Diesel and heating oil go up today while petrol dips just below two euros, in an oil market that remains tense because of the Middle East.
The maximum price of a litre of diesel (B7) rises by 6.6 cents today to 2.51 euros, a new record, the FPS Economy announced on Tuesday, according to RTBF and Business AM. The previous record of 2.501 euros dated from 22 September. HLN calculates that a full tank now costs 125 euros.
Petrol is getting slightly cheaper. The maximum price of 95 petrol (E10) falls by 1.4 cents to 1.988 euros, below two euros for the first time since early September. 98 petrol costs up to 2.149 euros. Heating oil is following diesel: for orders of 2,000 litres or more, the price rises by about 2.5 cents to 1.6108 euros a litre, Business AM reports.
In the background, oil remains expensive because of unrest in the Middle East. A barrel of Brent cost just over 111 dollars on Tuesday morning, Business AM reports, although prices slipped during the day on the back of diplomatic efforts, La Libre writes. Air travellers feel it too: according to De Standaard, high oil prices are driving up costs for airlines, and passengers will notice for months to come.
